Artist's Comments

when i asked for the photo he was a bit hesitant and replied he was feeling a bit rough and mumbled something about his whiskers making him look old.
i told him we'd shoot it in B&W and that may ease his concerns about looking older. well the B&W looked older and this one showed the good colour of his face so we both agreed this was the way to go.
His Name is Doug and he's a good man.

I have an uncle doug.. :)

I like this shot. I like how he seems suprised to be having his picture taken, but composed so well :)

I think that you did a good job not focusing on his eyes.. Others may not think so.

Horribly intrusive watermarks are tacky. If you're concerned about people stealing your photos, don't post them on the internet.

Photography is the simultaneous recognition, in a fraction of a second, of the significance of an event. (HCB)

i agree - other might not, his eyes were a bit cloudy, he said he had just gotten over the flu so it have been that.
he sat unblinking, i believe it is likely because of photography in the older days... you told to be still and not to move. : )

tks fox

he gave me plenty of time and was a very agreeable subject.

That's really neat. ^_^ So do you just shoot strangers that you take a shine to?

hmm, i guess that would be true, i'm having more luck getting a shot or two after we've chatted and i guess if i don't find them to be interesting i have a hard time chatting. so...

however there was this older (like 70) lady in this beautiful red hat and i spent a fair amount of time chatting to her but when i slipped in the question about a photo she turned me down flat.

i guess i kind of fidget with the camera as i talk... : )
:iconskeletoninadress:
Yes, you take the best photos after people relax around you and the camera.

I think it's something about older women. One turned me down, too. And my grandmother hates having her picture taken. I think they become very self-conscious as they age (or rather, about their age).
